Western Philosophy; a Religion for the Intellectual?
Western Philosophy has deep roots that go back
as far as Babylonian and Egyptian days and it has a strong secondary
foundation of Greek Philosophy as well. Yet much of the philosophy
after than tends to come from a religious slant where God created
man in this realm, as a universal given. If you look at the names
of the dead white men that we study in Western Philosophy these
comments will seem more obvious to you.
Pick up a book on the History of Western Philosophy
sometime and read thru the names and biographies of the notables
mentioned. Indeed in doing this you will see that there is a strong
religious biased there and probably smile and say yes, that is the
way it is in fact.
Only one problem with this and that is all the
Western Philosophers from 60 AD to mid 1800s were building upon
a base of previous philosophy in that same era, which had a religious
bias. So is Western Philosophy religiously basis and bias? Yes,
I submit to you that it is and in fact it is nothing more than advanced
religion for the intellectual in disguise.
The reason I point this out is that if all the
Western Philosophy for most of the last 2000 years has a religious
bias then perhaps it is limiting philosophical thought and therefore
Western Philosophy is over due for a major upgrade in the present
period.
I certainly hope this article is of interest and
that is has propelled thought. The goal is simple; to help you in
your quest to be the best in 2007. I thank you for reading my many
articles on diverse subjects, which interest you.
